Space Wars

Militarization in space:

The militarization of space is the placement and development of weaponry and military technology in outer space.

The early exploration of space in the mid-20th century had, in part, a military motivation, as the US and the Soviet Union used it as an opportunity to demonstrate  missile technology and other technologies having the potential for military application.

Outer space has  been used as an operating location for military spacecraft such as imaging and communications satellites.

Also some ballistic missiles pass through outer space during their flight.

As yet, however, weapons have not been stationed in space, with the exception of the Almaz space station and small handguns carried by Russian cosmonauts.

Russia has accused the US of harbouring dangerous hopes to develop and place weapons in space.

Which  feared Moscow that  could make the state of the world even more fraught.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov made the accusation during his year-in-review press conference , after claiming that the U.S. had rebuffed a joint attempt by Russia and China to strike a wider agreement on the “militarization of space.”

The idea of using outer space in military strategic planning became increasingly significant during the Cold War.

In 1967, Washington, Moscow and most other governments in the world agreed a set of provisions.

The provisions were meant to ensure that the use of space should be free of weapons of mass destruction.

U.S. satellites may be vulnerable to attacks that could make our whole way of fighting war riskier, according to experts.

“Every major space-faring nation that can track a satellite and launch into outer space has the means to mess up a satellite” said Michael Krepon, a space security expert.

A space arms race of sorts is underway  in the arsenals of China, Russia and the U.S.

Space weapons include satellite jammers , lasers and high-power microwave gun systems.

Space weapons were in use to compromise navigation, surveillance and communications.

“Our military space systems are critical to the way we fight war today,” said Todd Harrison, director of the aerospace security project at (CSIS).

The U.S. uses satellite technology in advanced weapons systems aboard aircraft and warships to carry out precision-strike capabilities.

Also infrared satellites provide key intelligence systems .

“Not surprisingly, nations are now actively testing methods to deny us continued use of space services during conflict,” said retired Air Force Gen.

William Shelton, the former commander of the U.S. Air Force Space Command, in testimony Wednesday to the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Strategic Forces.

The subcommittee heard about the role space-based capabilities play in emergencies and the threats to U.S. space systems.

Experts say the biggest threats seen today are non-kinetic threats such as jamming of satellite-based capabilities.

It is important  that arms race between  countries will only lead to escalation of tension in various region of world.

Thus the world’s superpower has to realise that their weapon can be harmful not only to them but to other nation in entire world .

Their weapon can act as deterrent of peace rather can acting as safeguard of it.

Perhaps more one try to build arm more he gets nearer to destruction.

Hence all humanities forces should come together. They have affirm and solid discussion over this topic in order to control the growing arms race.
